Die NFL auf PULS 4 geht in die nächste Runde: Am Sonntag, den 2. Oktober um 22:15 Uhr treffen die „Oakland Raiders“ aus Kalifornien auf die „New England Patriots“ aus Massachusetts.

Der kalifornische Traditionsverein ist insgesamt zwölffacher Divisionssieger und konnte bisher drei Mal den Super Bowl gewinnen. Ebenso die „New England Patriots“, mit Star-Quaterback Tom Brady. Sie waren nach den „Dallas Cowboys“ die zweite Mannschaft in der Geschichte der NFL, die drei Mal innerhalb von vier Jahren das große Finale der NFL gewinnen konnten.

Den beiden PULS 4-Kommentatoren Michael Eschlböck, Präsident des American Football Bunds Österreich (AFBÖ) und Walter Reiterer, Chefredakteur von Football-Austria entgeht auch dieses Mal kein Duell am Spielfeld.

Rule Explanation from the New York Giants-Philadelphia Eagles Game

In Sunday’s game between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles, Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz scored on a 28-yard touchdown reception with 8:07 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The ruling on the field was a touchdown, which was then confirmed after an instant replay review.

Referee Jeff Triplette announced the following:

“After reviewing the play, the ruling on the field is confirmed.  The receiver caught the ball, stuck it over the goal line – the plane – before he lost possession. It is a touchdown.”

Cruz had firm grip and control of the ball, touched both feet to the ground, and fulfilled the time requirement to complete the catch.

At the point that Cruz completed the catch, he became a runner (a runner is an offensive player who is in possession of a live ball).

When Cruz, acting as a runner, extended the ball over the goal line, it was a touchdown at the instant the ball penetrated the plane of the goal line.  Rule 11, Section 2, Article 1 (a) of the NFL Rule Book (page 61) states that a touchdown is scored when the ball is on, above, or behind the plane of the opponents’ goal line and is in possession of a runner who has advanced from the field of play.

When Cruz lost control of the ball, he was no longer attempting to catch a pass.  He had already completed the catch and was a runner attempting to score a touchdown by extending the ball across the goal line.

If the same situation occurred in the middle of the field, and a receiver who had become a runner lost possession of the ball as he reached forward for a first down, it would be a fumble.

Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3 of the NFL Rule Book (page 43) is listed below.

Article 3 Completed or Intercepted Pass. A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) if a player, who is inbounds:

(a) secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and

(b) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and

(c) maintains control of the ball long enough, after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, to enable him to perform any act common to the game (i.e., maintaining control long enough to pitch it, pass it, advance with it, or avoid or ward off an opponent, etc.).

Note 1: It is not necessary that he commit such an act, provided that he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so.

Note 2: If a player has control of the ball, a slight movement of the ball will not be considered a loss of possession. He must lose control of the ball in order to rule that there has been a loss of possession.

If the player loses the ball while simultaneously touching both feet or any part of his body other than his hands to the ground, or if there is any doubt that the acts were simultaneous, it is not a catch.

Item 1: Player Going to the Ground. If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball throughout the process of contacting the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching

the ground, the pass is complete.

Item 2: Sideline Catches. If a player goes to the ground out-of-bounds (with or without contact by an

opponent) in the process of making a catch at the sideline, he must maintain complete and continuous

control of the ball throughout the process of contacting the ground, or the pass is incomplete.

Item 3: End Zone Catches. If a player controls the ball while in the end zone, both feet, or any part of his body other than his hands, must be completely on the ground before losing control, or the pass is incomplete.

Eines der spannendsten Spiele der Saison erwartet die Zuseher/innen kommenden Sonntag, den 25. ORF-Programmpräsentation 2012 (4): "DREIZWEIEINSPLUS" - ORF startet Spartenkanäle ORF III Kultur und Information und ORF SPORT PLUS

Von einem "ORF-Feiertag am Feiertag" spricht ORF-Generaldirektor Dr. Alexander Wrabetz und meint damit den 26. Oktober 2011 als jenen Tag, an dem die neuen 24-Stunden-Spartenkanäle ORF III Kultur und Information und ORF SPORT PLUS erstmals on air gehen. Mit dem Start von ORF III Kultur und Information (u. a. mit "Don Giovanni" im Hauptabend) nimmt auf der bisherigen Frequenz von TW1 ein neuer 24-Stunden-Spartenkanal für Kultur und Information das Programm auf, der sich vor allem an kulturinteressierte Seherinnen und Seher richtet. Das Programm von ORF SPORT PLUS beginnt mit einer Live-Übertragung vom "Erste Bank Open"-Tennisturnier aus der Wiener Stadthalle und bietet allen Sportfans als Ergänzung zum bereits bestehenden Sportangebot des ORF ein umfassendes Sportprogramm. ORF III Kultur und Information

Basierend auf den vier Programmsäulen hat jeder Tag ein bestimmtes Label und ist ganz bestimmten Themenbereichen gewidmet.

- Montag ist Doku-Tag. - Der Dienstag steht im Zeichen von Kunst und Kultur. - Religion und Wissenschaft stehen am Mittwoch im Mittelpunkt. - Der Donnerstag konzentriert sich auf den Schwerpunkt Europa. - Freitag ist Österreich-Tag, gefolgt von - Zeitgeschichte am Samstag. - Abgerundet wird die Programmwoche mit Oper, Theater und Konzert am Sonntag.

ORF III ist mit seinem KunstRaum nicht nur Bühne für österreichische Kunst- und Kulturschaffende, sondern macht auch Platz für zahlreiche Eigenproduktionen wie etwa die Büchersendung "erLesen" (mit Heinz Sichrovsky), das Kulturgespräch "KulturWerk" (mit Barbara Rett), die Galerie- und Museumssendung "Aus dem Rahmen" (mit Karl Hohenlohe) sowie das Festivalformat "Kultur im Gespräch" (ebenfalls mit Barbara Rett). Erste Programmhighlights in ORF III 

Gleich die erste Programmwoche von ORF III Kultur und Information bietet zahlreiche Höhepunkte: Am 26. Oktober startet um 20.15 Uhr mit "Don Giovanni" mit Thomas Hampson in der Titelrolle (von den Salzburger Festspielen 2006) die erste von allen 22 Mozart-Opern, die ORF III erstmals komplett im Fernsehen zeigt. Am 30. Oktober geht der Mozart-Reigen, ebenfalls um 20.15 Uhr und ebenfalls von den Salzburger Festspielen 2006, mit "Le nozze di Figaro" - u. a. mit Anna Netrebko - weiter. Am 28. Oktober folgt um 20.15 Uhr mit der Oscar-nominierten "Revanche" der erste heimische Film und danach um 22.30 Uhr aus der Reihe "Theater und Fernsehlegenden" aus der Josefstadt "Onkel Wanja" mit u. a. Hans Holt, Kurt Sowinetz und Erik Frey. Zeitgeschichte "made by ORF" steht am 29. Oktober ab 20.15 Uhr mit den ersten beiden Folgen der Doku-Serie "Der Zweite Weltkrieg" auf dem Programm. Das erste ORF-III-"Feiertagsspezial" widmet sich am 31. Oktober ab 20.15 Uhr dem Reformationstag - u. a. mit Rosa von Praunheims "Rosas Höllenfahrt" und einem Interview mit Bischof Michael Bünker. Am 1. November steht gleich das nächste "Feiertagsspezial" zu "Allerheiligen" auf dem Programm, u. a. mit der legendären "Universum"-Doku "Es lebe der Zentralfriedhof" (20.15 Uhr) und Anita Natmeßnigs vielfach ausgezeichneten Film "Zeit zu gehen" (21.15 Uhr) über das Sterben. Mit "Slumming" gibt es am 4. November um 20.15 Uhr den nächsten Austrofilm zu sehen, "Aus der Josefstadt" stehen um 22.25 Uhr "Katzenzungen" mit Elfriede Ott auf dem Programm. Helmut Qualtinger sind am 5. November ab 22.10 Uhr zwei weitere "Kult.reloaded"-Ausgaben gewidmet.

ORF SPORT PLUS 

Die Live-Berichterstattung nimmt bei ORF SPORT PLUS einen besonders hohen Stellenwert ein, los geht es in der ersten Programmwoche mit dem Tennisturnier aus der Wiener Stadthalle. Dafür hat ORF SPORT PLUS ein 24-Stunden-Programmschema entwickelt, das den Zuseherinnen und Zusehern größtmögliche Programmsicherheit bietet. Jeden Tag von Montag bis Sonntag erfolgt von 20.15 bis 23.15 Uhr die Erstausstrahlung eines Programms. Es folgen im Drei-Stunden-Rhythmus drei Wiederholungen aus den Vortagen. Die so entstehenden zwölf Sendestunden werden bis zur neuen Erstausstrahlung am darauffolgenden Tag - ab 8.15 Uhr - einmal wiederholt. Bei großflächigen Live-Übertragungen (etwa dem Stadthallen-Turnier) werden das Programm und auch die Wiederholungen flexibel gestaltet. Es entsteht somit eine Mischung aus aktuellem (Live-)Programm und zeitnahen Wiederholungen, die den Zuseherinnen und Zusehern in jeder individuellen Zeitzone die Programmhighlights der Woche anbietet. Die Erstausstrahlung um 20.15 Uhr wird täglich vom Präsentator der Sendung "Sport aktuell" in ORF eins anmoderiert.

FORMER IFAF WORLD TEAM PLAYERS CONTINUE TO IMPRESS IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL ACTION IN USA AND CANADA

The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) selected the top Under-19 players from around the world to represent the World Team at the annual USA Football International Bowl, so it should be no surprise that former players have experienced plenty of success in college football in the United States and Canada.  

In the Canadian Interuniversity Sport League, 2010 starting quarterback JEREMI DOYON-ROCH is starting as a true freshman at Sherbrooke Vert & Or. Doyon-Roch has led his team to a 2-0 start, most recently defeating McGill 39-13 and finishing the game having completed 26 of 37 passes for 362 yards and two touchdowns (8 yards, 21 yards).

Many other Canadian IFAF World Team alumni have also made impressive starts to the new college football season.

2011 IFAF World Team member SHAQUILLE ARMSTRONG and 2010 alum CHRISTIAN WALCOTT led Concordia University to their first victory of the season, defeating Bishop's 25-18. In the first two games of the season Walcott has recorded a total of 10 tackles including one for a loss of 2 yards.

STEVEN LUMBALA, a 2010 and 2011 IFAF World Team member, simply could not be stopped on Friday night. The third-year product of St. Francis High School racked up 204 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns, including the game-winner with just 18 seconds left, as the University of Calgary Dinos improved to 2-0 on the season with a 30-25 win against UBC.

On the defensive side of the ball, DOCTOR CASSAMA from Sweden and LINDON GAYDOSH contributed to the victory. Gaydosh made four tackles along with forcing and recovering a fumble. Cassama, who recorded four tackles and recovered a fumble, found his way to Calgary after impressing the head coach Blake Nill at the 2009 IFAF Junior World Championship where he was named to the All-Tournament Team. He was also an all-star for Sweden at the 2008 Junior European Championships.

Also on the Dinos' team is 2011 World team member, JAKE HARTY whomade an early impression in his first CIS game with the Calgary Dinos last week, returning his first touch of the football 88 yards for a touchdown on a Manitoba kickoff in the first quarter. Calgary went on to win 35-31 and Harty put up 242 all-purpose yards in the game and was named the Canada West special teams Player of the week for his efforts. In this week's game, Harty caught for 71 yards including a 19-yard touchdown and ran for 65 yards on kickoff returns.

Despite York University Lions falling to Toronto 10-8, rookie defensive back MARCUS GRANDISON had another impressive game leading the Lions in tackles for the second consecutive week with 7 and also broke up a pass.

IFAF World Team head coach GREG MARSHALL opened his season with the University of Western Ontario Mustangs a 2-0 with a 48-17 win against McMaster.

The Mustangs feature three Canadian former IFAF World Team players including 2011 starting quarterback BEN ROSSONG who ran for 18 yards and completed a pass for 6 yards. MARCUS BABIC made four tackles while DAVID LEE had six tackles including one for a loss of a yard.

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies features eight former IFAF World Team players on the roster, including JAHLANI GILBERT-KNORREN, a second-year university quarterback from Edmonton, who facing second-20 from his own 10-yard line passed to the right side of the field to Dexter Janke who made the catch, turned upfield and scorched an 100-yard pass and run touchdown. The Huskies went on to win 33-10 over Regina. Gilbert-Knorren was a huge offensive spark for the 2011 IFAF World Team that narrowly lost to USA 21-14.

Other IFAF World Team players helping in the win were LEVI STEINHAUER with four tackles including two sacks for a loss of five yards, JOEL SUETTER with two tackles, LUKE THIEL whoreturned four punts 89 yards and defensively made an interception and a tackle, and JERIT LAMBERT who ran for 21 yards and made one catch for 11 yards.

The University of Ottawa kicked off the OUA football regular season 2-0 with a 19-6 win over Queen's. TYLER SAWYER led the defense with five tackles, SOONBUM CHA, who took part in both the 2010 and 2011 USA Football International Bowl, had five tackles and ran for two yards.

Former 2009 Team Canada and 2010 IFAF World Team kicker TYLER CRAPIGNA had a busy opening game during his McMasters 26-2 win against Queen's connecting on four of six field goals, 2-2 on extra points, punted for 240 yards and totaled 185 yards on kickoffs. Crapigna made field goals from 16, 20, 29, and 35 yards.  

Alabama is currently 2-0, as the Crimson Tide totaled 359 yards of offense during a 27-11 victory against Penn State at Beaver Stadium before a crowd of 107,846. Australian JESSE WILLIAMS recorded two tackles and broke up a pass during the win. He began his football career in Australia and then played two years of junior college football at Arizona Western College where he was named #2 Player in the Rivals.com 2011 JUCO Top 50.  

Florida State University and Berlin native BJOERN WERNER continues to have a successful 2011 season, as FSU wasted little time jumping all over Charleston Southern scoring on the first three possessions of the ballgame before running away with a 62-10 victory. Starting at defensive end, the German collected one tackle.  

Werner represented Germany at the inaugural 2009 IFAF Junior World Championship held in Canton, Ohio and he was also selected to the IFAF World Team in 2010. Werner played his junior football in his homeland with the Berlin Adler before launching a standout prep school career at the Salisbury School in Connecticut as a member of the USA Football International Student Program.

AIULUA FANENE, a native of American Samoa who was also a 2010 IFAF World Team member, started for his Arizona Wildcats during the 37-14 loss to Oklahoma State. The game was a rematch of last year's Alamo Bowl.

Austrian native ALEKSANDAR MILANOVIC, who along with playing for the IFAF World Team in 2010 also represented his national team at the 2011 IFAF Senior World Championship, is now playing at Sacramento State who opened their regular season with a 29-28 overtime victory at Oregon State but then fell to Southern Utah 35-10.

Freshman Canadian defensive end, MEHDI ABDESMAD recorded two tackles in his first collegiate game as his Boston College Eagles fell to Northwestern 24-17 and played in the Eagles' 30-3 loss to Central Florida. Abdesmad played in the 2010 USA Football International Bowl and helped Canada to a silver medal at the 2009 IFAF Junior World Championship.

BRANDON BRIDGE, who split time with Doyon-Roch at quarterback in 2010 for the IFAF World Team, passed for 253 yards, threw two touchdowns and rushed for 62 yards but was not enough to secure Alcorn State a victory as his team fell 27-20 to host team Arkansas Pine-Bluff.

JACOB RUBY played in UCONN's 24-21 loss to Vanderbilt and Canadian compatriot DILLON GUY participated in Buffalo's 35-7 win against Stony Brook as the Bulls improved to 1-1.

A member of the first IFAF World development team JUSTIN TAIMATUIA is playing college football at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas. The team recorded its first victory of the season defeating Independence 35-14 as the American Samoa native made seven tackles - second highest on the team.

The recent 2011 European Junior Championship in Seville, Spain, featured multiple former IFAF World Team and development team members, including ANDREAS HOFBAUER and LAURINHO WALCH who led their Austrian National team to a gold medal. Hofbauer was named game MVP and selected for the All-Tournament team.

Sweden featured MARKUS WESTMAN and PONTUS WESTMAN and development team members ERIK RAUGE, ROBIN SVALLIN and TOM HAGSTEN as they claimed the bronze medal by defeating Germany 21-14. Germany featured MARVIN EHIMARE, MARCEL REIP and FARID JANSEN.

Seven From Sunday -- Kickoff Weekend

A look at seven statistical highlights from games played at 1:00 p.m. ET and 4:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 11, the first week of the 2011 season.

• The THREE KICKOFF RETURN TOUCHDOWNS (Packers’ RANDALL COBB, 108 yards; 49ers’ TED GINN JR., 102 yards; Vikings’ PERCY HARVIN, 103 yards) so far in Week 1 tie for the most in NFL history on Kickoff Weekend (1970, 1998).

Ginn also had a 55-yard punt-return touchdown in the 49ers’ 33-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks, becoming the first player to have a kickoff-return touchdown and punt-return touchdown in the same game on Kickoff Weekend. He is also the 12th player in NFL history to have both a KR-TD and PR-TD in the same game. 

• The CHICAGO BEARS, who defeated the Atlanta Falcons 30-12, have won 52 games on Kickoff Weekend, tied with the GREEN BAY PACKERS for the most wins all-time on Kickoff Weekend. The Bears also posted their 63rd win in home openers, the most in NFL history.

·         Philadelphia quarterback MICHAEL VICK had 98 rushing yards in the Eagles’ 31-13 win over the St. Louis Rams. Vick now has 4,728 career rushing yards and joins RANDALL CUNNINGHAM (4,928) as the only quarterbacks in NFL history with at least 4,700 rushing yards. 

Vick’s 98 rushing yards were the second-most by a quarterback in a season opener. He holds the record with 103 rushing yards on Kickoff Weekend last year (September 12, 2010 against Green Bay).

·         Carolina quarterback CAM NEWTON passed for 422 yards against the Arizona Cardinals in his NFL debut, tying Detroit Lions quarterback MATTHEW STAFFORD (422 on November 22, 2009) for the most passing yards in a game by a rookie quarterback in NFL history.

Newton’s 422 passing yards are the most by a rookie quarterback on Kickoff Weekend in NFL history and fifth-most all-time by any player on Kickoff Weekend.

• Baltimore safety ED REED had two interceptions in the Ravens’ 35-7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Reed now has 12 games with at least two interceptions, the most by any player who began their career in the Super Bowl era.

·         Washington rookie linebacker RYAN KERRIGAN had a nine-yard interception-return touchdown in the Redskins’ 28-14 victory over the New York Giants. Kerrigan is the first rookie linebacker since 2002 (James Allen, September 8) to score a touchdown on Kickoff Weekend.

• The HOUSTON TEXANS defeated the Indianapolis Colts 34-7 on Kickoff Weekend. The Texans became the first team since the 1994 Indianapolis Colts (35 points vs. Houston Oilers) to score at least 34 points in the first half of a game on Kickoff Weekend.

ESPN, NFL Reach Eight-Year Extension for Monday Night Football

Broad Studio, Multimedia and International Rights Included

Monday Night Football, the most successful series in sports media history, will remain on ESPN through the 2021 NFL season under a new eight-year agreement between ESPN and the National Football League, it was announced today by ESPN and ABC Sports President George Bodenheimer and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The broad multiplatform agreement, which begins in 2014, includes eight full seasons of MNF telecasts, expanded NFL studio programming (beginning this week), highlight rights for TV and ESPN.com, the Pro Bowl, the NFL Draft, 3D rights, and enhanced international rights.

The extensive package of NFL rights will fuel the continued growth of ESPN year-round, boosting its core television business while at the same time supporting the company’s “best available screen” strategy with NFL programs on TV, online and on mobile devices via authentication and digital rights. Outside the U.S., ESPN will televise MNF and other regular season games, playoffs, and the Super Bowl in 30 million households in 144 countries and territories across five continents, including Brazil, the Caribbean, Africa, Middle East, Israel, Australia-New Zealand, and Continental Europe. The agreement also provides the NFL with an option to air a postseason Wild Card playoff game on ESPN should the NFL decide to do so.

An iconic series in the history of American television, Monday Night Football debuted in 1970.  After a 36-year run on ABC, the series moved to ESPN in 2006 as part of a landmark eight-year agreement.  During the past five seasons, ESPN’s MNF has become the most-watched series in cable television history, registering eight of cable’s 10 all-time biggest household audiences and 16 of the top 20 (excluding breaking news). In 2010, MNF ranked eighth among all primetime programs (broadcast or cable), averaging 10.5 million homes (14.7 million viewers), an unprecedented achievement for a cable television property. In addition, an estimated 140 million people viewed MNF and NFL studio programming on ESPN/ESPN2 over the course of the 2010 NFL season

Said Bodenheimer: “Today, we’ve secured cable’s most valuable television franchise, along with an enhanced international package of year-round multimedia rights. It will help grow our business well into the next decade. No one has the breadth of worldwide media assets or the ability to monetize a property the way ESPN can, particularly with Monday Night Football and our complete NFL coverage.”

“We are proud to extend our three-decade partnership with ESPN,” said Commissioner Goodell. “We have come a long way together since ESPN first televised the NFL Draft in 1980. With this new agreement we are excited about the opportunity to take the NFL-ESPN partnership to innovative new heights in serving the most passionate fans in sports.”

ESPN’s significantly-enhanced NFL rights package for the extension will include:

• Telecast rights to 17 Monday Night Football games per season for eight additional seasons (2014-2021).
• Rights to more than 500 new hours of NFL-branded studio programming per year, starting this week. Popular programs such as ESPN’s Emmy Award-winning Sunday NFL Countdown pre-game show (expands to three hours), NFL Live (expands to one hour year-round), Monday Night Countdown, NFL PrimeTime, and NFL Matchup will continue, and ESPN will create more NFL-branded studio programming, including NFL 32 and NFL Kickoff, both debuting this week.
  
  
• Expanded highlight rights across ESPN’s television and ESPN.com;
• Pro Bowl;
• NFL Draft, which ESPN has covered since 1980;
• 3D distribution rights;
• Rights to simulcast network coverage of ESPN’s MNF and NFL studio programs on tablet devices through ESPN’s WatchESPN App;
• Continued Spanish-language rights to MNF on ESPN Deportes;
• International rights, including distribution of MNF on ESPN International networks in select markets in Brazil, the Caribbean, Africa, Middle East, Israel, Europe and Australia-New Zealand through 2021; regular season, playoffs and Super Bowl in select markets, totaling 30 million households in 144 countries and territories across five continents; and the ability to utilize NFL programming on all platforms as part of a linear stream of ESPN network programming.

The long-term agreement also ensures that Monday Night Football will celebrate its 50^th anniversary season on ESPN in 2020.

ESPN first televised Sunday primetime NFL games in 1987, covering the second half of the regular season (eight games annually,1987-89; nine games, 1990-97), and expanding to a full slate of 18 games from 1998-2005.  ESPN has carried a 17-game Monday Night Football schedule since 2006. ESPN is coming off a record-breaking season in 2010.

• Monday Night Football averaged a 10.5 rating, and 10.5 million homes (14.7 million viewers). ESPN won the night vs. all networks, cable or broadcast, among men 18-34 and men 18-49 every week during the 2010 season and consistently competed against the broadcast networks in total viewers on Monday nights;
• MNF ranked second among all regularly scheduled prime time programs in 2010 among men 18-34, men 18-49 and men 25-54. Among adults 18-49, MNF ranked fourth;
• MNF games accounted for cable television’s 16 biggest audiences among households, and the 12 biggest among total viewers, in 2010;
• Sunday NFL Countdown averaged a 2.1 rating and 2,167,000 households (2,055,000 viewers) in 2010. The household impressions mark represents an eight percent increase from Countdown’s 2005 season (1,997,000 household impressions), the final year of ESPN’s previous NFL agreement;
• Monday Night Countdown had its highest-rated and most-viewed season ever in 2010, averaging a 2.7 rating and 2,729,000 households (3,532,000 viewers). In 2005 (the final year of ESPN’s previous NFL deal), Monday Night Countdown averaged 1,749,000 households for the season.

NFL Content on ESPN Digital Platforms:

·         ESPN averaged 42.2 million unique visitors on the site in fall 2010;

·         Sundays during the NFL season are the highest trafficked days of the year for ESPN.com

·         During the 2010 season, NFL content represented 39% of the page views generated on ESPN.com, highest of any sport.

·         The NFL fan spends over 50% more time with ESPN media than the average person;

·         ESPN.com NFL coverage on Sunday and Monday (including the home page, NFL section and Fantasy Football section) averaged 47.4 million visits and 271.4 million minutes of usage during the 2010 season, a year-to-year increase of 20% on visits and 20% on minutes.

·         NFL coverage (incl. NFL and Fantasy Football section) on the ESPN Mobile web site and ScoreCenter app in 2010 delivered 14.5 million visits and 101.4 million minutes each week, increases of 66% and 61%, respectively, versus the prior year.

Um 2:00 morgens MEZ startet die NFL mit dem Spiel Green Bay Packers vs. New Orleans Saints in die Saison 2011/2012.

Gleichzeitig beginnt auch das FA-NFL-Tippspiel. Dem Gewinner winkt ein FA-iNSIDER-Account für ein ganzes Jahr. Derzeit sind schon über 70 Spieler dabei, noch kann man sich anmelden.

Es wird zwar möglich sein sich in der laufenden Saison noch einzubringen, die Chancen die Tipp-Liga zu gewinnen, die sind dann aber verschwindend gering.

Also: Heute noch hier anmelden und mitspielen.

Die Sodomie-Keule aus dem „Fritzl-Land“

Oder: warum ich dann doch oft gerne nur der „Football-Hawi“ bin.

Um das alles nun nicht falsch zu verstehen, eines vorab: Ich mag den Fußballsport. Ich bin da ganz Masochist, da er in Österreich zwar sehr beliebt ist, aber international nicht besonders erfolgreich gespielt wird. Dabei befinden wir uns momentan sogar in einer Hochphase, mit Sturm, der Austria und den falschen Salzburgern in der Europa-League. Ich mache das (zuschauen) auch schon sehr lange. Mein Herr Papa war Schiedsrichter, sogar ein ganz guter, wie er sagt. Also zweite Bundesliga, dann war Schluss. Wimpassing (wo ich selbst noch spielte), Ternitz, Neunkirchen, Wiener Neustadt, Neudörfl, in Wien dann angekommen (1985) die Admira, die Rapid (Papa erzog mich zum Rapidler, was ich später ablegte), dann der FAV AC, seit ich „in Football“ mache die Vienna, weil ich die Hohe Warte auch als Location liebe. Ich bin kein ausgewiesener Taktikfuchs, aber ich konnte stets den Frauen die Abseitsregel erklären und kenne die Aufgaben des Sechsers auch dann noch, sollte es zwei von ihnen geben. Also quasi als Teamchef momentan sogar überqualifiziert.

Trotzdem gehört aus meiner Sicht das mal gesagt, denn mein Anspruch an einen Besuch eines Fußballspiels, der hat sich in den letzten Jahren gehörig von dem vieler anderer entfremdet. Ich gehe zum Fußball, weil ich Unterhaltung haben möchte. Ende. Mehr ist es nicht. Zwei Bier, drei bei einem Unentschieden, vier bei einem Sieg, ein Würstel und/oder eine Schnitzelsemmel und Freunde mit denen man das teilt. Sehr profan.

47.500 Zuschauer kamen zum EM-Qualifikationsspiel zwischen Österreich und der Türkei ins Happel-Stadion, darunter 15.000 Türken, die – so schreibt es der ORF – das Prateroval schon vor dem Spiel in einen Hexenkessel verwandelt hätten. So richtig spannend wurde es aber erst, als die 32.500 Österreicher hinzu kamen, die sich während des Hexenkessels noch an den Wurstkesseln  gestärkt hatten.

Schon bei der Hinfahrt (Straßenbahn 18, 77 A) fiel mir auf, dass Fußball für Türken wohl mehr eine Familiensache ist, bei der alle Generationen vertreten sind. Im Gegensatz zu Österreich, bei der das eher eine Disziplin junger Männer zu sein scheint. Selten auch: Der Opa-Enkel-Ausflug. Gehört zum Erwachsenwerden halt dazu. Ich war da auch. 1973, auf der Pfarrwiese, zeigte mir Gustl Starek seinen nackten Popo. Seither bin ich ein besserer Mensch. Auch der Alkoholkonsum verteilte sich dementsprechend ungleich: Litschisaft/Almdudler vs. Ottakringer/eingenähter Flachmann. Für mich die skurrilsten Erscheinungen: Türken mit Utensilien beider Mannschaften. Gemischt wurden alte Hakan Sükür-Jerseys mit rot-weiß-roten Fahnen und Halbmond-Capes mit Tirolerhüten (sic!). In so mancher Brust schien ein zweites Herz zu schlagen. Oder ein Glory-Hunter.

In meinem Sektor (D) kam, als ich noch auf meinen Kartenkurier wartete (danke Stefan an der Stelle für das Ticket), der Befehl an: Ab jetzt keine türkischen Fahnen und Transparente mehr, weil „der D soll rein österreichisch gehalten werden“. Was alleine deshalb schon zum Scheitern verurteilt war, da drinnen ja bereits der Kessel der Hexe am Dampfen war und man zuvor schon fest gemischt hatte.

Ich kann den reinen Türken-Sektor nicht verteidigen, da dieser am anderen Ende des Ovals war, man hörte wohl die Pfiffe aus der Ecke, die schnell übertönt wurden, wenn Österreich am Ball war, was sich aber in meinem irrtümlich ethisch verunreinigten Österreicher-Sektor abspielte, das macht einem als Chronist des Footballs, wo kollektive mehrstündige Hirnaussetzer ausgeschlossen sind, dann doch einigermaßen sprachlos. Ich redete die zwei Stunden dort kaum ein Wort, finde jetzt erst zu mir. Ich weiß auch nicht, wie das Kollegen von mir seit Jahren aushalten. Vermutlich bekommt man in der Pressebox neben den VIP-Lounges das Geschehen auch nur am Rande, oder aus der Ferne, oder gar nicht mit. Sicher auch besser, wenn es der Job ist.

Das Publikum rund um mich wie gesagt zum überwiegenden Teil jugendlich, männlich und - dem Ereignis entsprechend - dem Gerstensaft zugetan. Weniger zugetan, das merkte man schnell, waren sie den Türken. Die Anwesenheit einer türkischen Minderheit, darunter eine erkleckliche Anzahl Frauen, verwandelte so manche Bierleiche alleine schon in einen rasenden Zömbie.

Unvermeidlich war – sozusagen die Pre-Game-Show - Rainhard Fendrichs „I am from Austria“. Beim Refrain ein Hobby-Etymologe neben mir alle seine Nachbarn darüber aufklärte, dass es „I am from Österreich“ heißen müsste, weil wir ja schließlich keine „scheiß Amis“ seien. Einer entgegnete „I am from“ sei auch „Scheißamisch“, was den Sprachinspektor vorerst zum Schweigen brachte. Womöglich dachte er auch nach, wer ihm den Rest übersetzten kann...

Vorm Ankick – es war ja auch Fair Play-Tag der FIFA (was wirklich niemanden interessierte) – lasen die Spieler vor, dass sie sich fair verhalten werden. Die Österreicher auf Deutsch und die Türken auf türkisch, wovon man aber nur das erste Wort hörte, denn beim zweiten hörte man nur mehr ein gellendes Pfeifkonzert. Noch halb so wild.

Beim Vorlesen der türkischen Spieler kam vom Platzsprecher der Vorname und aus dem Oval dann der Nachname. Die Türken spielten demnach im Tor, in der Abwehr, im Mittelfeld und im Angriff mit „Orschsau“, schenkt man dem profunden Publikum Glauben. Ich wunderte mich zum ersten Mal über meine Landsleute.

Das Spiel ging los, eine der jungen Frauen wachelte mit ihrer Türkenfahne und es wurde ihr von hinten schnell klar gemacht, dass sie das „Häuslpapier“ zu Hause lassen soll, sonst würde man es ihr entwenden und seiner auswischenden Bestimmung zuführen. Sie lächelte verlegen, packte das Teil weg, währen die Menge zum Kanton „Wer nicht hüpft der ist ein Türke“ aufstand (und hüpfte), ich mich durch Sitzenbleiben wohl verdächtig machte. Ich kam tatsächlich wegen des Spiels und nicht wegen dem „Österreicher müssen hüpfen, damit man sie nicht mit Türken verwechselt“-Contest.

Möglicherweise verstehe ich das alles auch gar nicht. Sicher werden einige nun sagen, ich bin ja eh ein bekanntes „Lulu“, ein Warmduscher, einer der sogar Football schaut und Curling gut findet und alleine deshalb schon auf einem Fußballplatz nichts verloren hat. Und falls doch, dann bei den „koksziehenden Pressefuzzis“, den „Vip-Platzschweinen“, bei den „Constantini-Hassern“ und sonstigen Nestbeschmutzern, die nicht verstehen, dass das da eine Jahrhunderte alte Kultur zelebriert wird und alles ganz genau so gehört, hätte man es erst mal verstanden, was man von so einem wie mir aber nicht verlangen könnte.

Als sich der Sprachforscher erholt hatte - man sah ein Tackling von hinten an einem Österreicher - schrie er Richtung des türkischen Übeltäters: „Herst, des kannst daham machen, mit dein Esel!“ Die Sodomie-Keule aus dem „Fritzl-Land“ in Minute 85 reichte mir dann auch. Ich hatte genug gesehen und gehört. Bei allem Verständnis für „originelles“ Bashing: Als Österreicher sollte man in Sachen sexueller Entgleisungen der grauslichen Art einfach den Ball ganz flach halten. Im Jargon: besser die Goschn halten.

Auf der Heimfahrt stieg in den 18er eine fünfköpfige türkische Familie zu und setze sich neben mir. „Schau net so traurig herst, in der ersten Halbzeit hamma eh gut gespielt“, so „Papa Türk“ zu mir. „Was meinst? Wer hat gut gespielt?“ „Wer auch immer“ und lachte. Da konnte ich zumindest Schmunzeln uns musste an Peter King denken, der nach seinem Österreich-Besuch als „weird austria fact“ bloggte: „Hitler was born here!“ Scheiß Ami eben.

ÖSTERREICH ist Junioren-EUROPAMEISTER

In einem packenden EM-Finale ringt Team Austria die Franzosen in Sevilla mit 24:14 nieder und schreibt Football-Geschichte. Zum ersten Mal gewinnt eine Österreichische Football-Nationalmannschaft eine A-Europameisterschaft.

Österreich startet im ersten Viertel furios und geht durch ein Field Goal von Kicker Clemens Erlsbacher und einem Touchdown-Lauf von Running Back Andreas Hofbauer mit 10:00 in Führung. Im zweiten Viertel zeigen die Franzosen groß auf und erzielen mit ihrer schnellen Option-Offense zwei Touchdowns und gehen mit einer 14:10 Führung in die Halbzeit.

Das dritte Viertel wird von beiden Defense-Reihen dominiert, es bleibt beim 14:10 für die Franzosen. Doch im vierten Viertel legt die Österreichische Offense noch einen Gang zu und Running Back Andreas Hofbauer tankt sich ein ums andere Mal durch die Französische Abwehrreihen durch und erzielt noch zwei Lauf-Touchdowns, die den Sieg zum 24:14 (alle Extrapunkte wurden erfolgreich von Kicker Clemens Erlsbacher verwandelt) herbeiführen. Zum Spiel-MVP wurde dann auch noch der Tiroler Running Back Andreas Hofbauer gewählt, der in 22 Läufen 144 Yards und drei Touchdowns erzielte.

Mit dem Europameister-Titel schreibt das Nationalteam Football-Geschichte und mit der Finalteilnahme hat man sich automatisch für die Junioren-WM im Sommer 2012 in USA (Texas oder Ohio) qualifiziert.
