Im ersten Teil seiner Kolumne „Blitzys Special Themes“ bei www.Laola1.at spricht SWARCO Raiders Kicker und Nachwuchscoach Robert Balazinec über die turbulente Anreise der österreichischen Gasttrainer in Oakland und die ersten Eindrücke beim Training der Oakland Raiders.

Robert Balazinec: „Es gibt sicher so viele Menschen, die gern mit Markus und mir tauschen würden. Wir essen am Nebentisch von Megastars und fahren mit Multimillionären im Bus ins Stadion. Das ist unglaublich. Und ich bin froh, dass ich diese Erfahrung mit den Leuten da draußen teilen kann.“

Camping mit Krause – Teil1: Unter der Sonne Kaliforniens

Traumhaftes Wetter, Weinberge so weit das Auge reicht und ein Hotelzimmer, wie ich es mir selbst wohl kaum leisten könnte. Und doch bin ich nicht im Urlaub. Nein, ich bin im Trainingscamp der Oakland Raiders. Wie ich hier hergekommen bin, erzähle ich Euch jetzt.

Es ging zu nächtlicher Zeit am Mittwoch los. Mit dem Bus nach München, dann weiter per Flieger nach Frankfurt. Dort nahmen wir die Maschine nach Philadelphia. Und kaum in den USA angekommen, wartete das Chaos auf uns. Von den zwei Stunden, die wir bis zu unserem Anschlussflug Zeit hatten, verbrachten wir geschlagene 90 Minuten bei der Einreisekontrolle. Anschließend durften wir unsere sportlichen Fähigkeiten unter Beweis stellen – schließlich mussten wir den Flug nach San Francisco erreichen. Am Schalter gab man uns Tickets nach Las Vegas, da unser Flug umgebucht wurde. Nur so kamen wir durch die Sicherheitskontrolle. Und am Flieger selbst erhielten wir dann doch noch unsere Tickets. In San Francisco war unser Gepäck für rund 30 Minuten unauffindbar. Doch wie heißt es so schön: Ende gut, alles gut.

Wir kamen schließlich nach rund 29 Stunden unterwegs im Hotel in Oakland an. Am nächsten Tag ging es endlich zum Camp der Raiders. Wir wurden a la Hollywood abgeholt. In einer Stretch-Limousine ging es nach Napa Valley. Dort checkten wir schnell ein und erhielten anschließend eine exklusive Tour über das riesige Gelände. Allein Umkleide und Fitnessbereich (der übrigens im Freien aufgebaut ist) sind so groß wie unser komplettes Trainingsgelände in Innsbruck. Wahnsinn!

Bevor es am Nachmittag zum ersten Training ging, wurden wir mit Raiders Gear ausgestattet. Plötzlich war man nicht mehr von den anderen Spielern und Coaches zu unterscheiden (zumindest nicht von der Fashion-Erscheinung). Das erste Training machte uns schnell klar, wie groß der Unterschied zwischen Profis und Amateuren wirklich ist, speziell die Geschwindigkeit, der Spielfluss des ganzen Spiels und das Spielverständnis.

Am Freitag trafen wir endlich John Fassel, den Special Teams Coordinator und besten Freund von unserem Head Coach Santos Carrillo. John ist immer für einen Spruch gut und steht immer unter Strom. Später sahen wir das erste Vollkontakt-Training. Da ging es ordentlich zur Sache. Und nicht nur wir haben gespannt zugeschaut. Auch Raiders-Besitzer Al Davis war an der Seitenlinie. Schon irre, da stand ich nur wenige Meter von einem der wichtigsten Männer der NFL-Geschichte entfernt.

Nach dem Training gab es die nächste Überraschung. Raiders Head Coach Tom Cable nahm sich Zeit für die internationalen Coaches. Er stellte sich vor, scherzte ein wenig und wollte wissen, wo wir alle herkommen. Anschließend gab er zu verstehen, dass er gern mal nach Österreich kommen würde. Ich bin mir sicher, die SWARCO Raiders nehmen ihn mit offenen Armen auf.

Am Samstag ging es relativ früh zum Training. Wieder ging es mit voller Härte zur Sache. Am Nachmittag stand dann die „Raider Nation Celebration“ – die große Fan-Party der Raiders – auf dem Programm. Nachdem wir mit fünf Luxusbussen und Polizeieskorte zum Stadion gefahren wurden, durften wir mit in die Kabine. Die war mal riesengroß. Danach ging es raus aufs Feld. Die Fans feierten uns frenetisch. Wir standen direkt an der Seitenlinie und hatten die wilden Anhänger der Raiders im Rücken. Ein Wahnsinnsgefühl. Und als am Ende des Nachmittags eine Autogrammstunde auf dem Programm stand, flippten die Fans völlig aus. So kann es weitergehen!

Alle Fans und Medien haben die Chance, ganz nah dran zu sein am Geschehen. Denn die Coaches der Swarco Raiders nutzen das World Wide Web, um alle Interessierten rund um die Uhr auf dem Laufenden zu halten. So gibt es wie schon im Vorjahr Blogs von Krause und Balazinec auf Raiders.com und Raiders.at zu lesen. Football-Austria bringt ab dem kommenden Wochenende eine Kolumne mit Balazinec: 'Im Camp mit Krause'. Auf den Social Networks facebook und Twitter fließen die wichtigsten Informationen in Windeseile zusammen.

'Ich finde es klasse, dass wir auf diese Weise mit den Fans und unseren Freunden und Familien kommunizieren können. So wissen sie immer, was wir gerade unternehmen, lernern oder wen wir erst wenige Minuten zuvor kennen gelernt haben', erklärt Krause. Und Balazinec fügt hinzu: 'Ich schreibe sehr gern und freue mich daher auf die Blogs und Kolumnen. Außerdem ist es schön zu wissen, dass unsere Fans und Familien über facebook und Twitter mit uns in Kontakt bleiben können. Es ist ein bisschen, als wären sie beim International Guest Coach Program mit dabei.'

Überraschungsbesuch von 'altem Bekannten'
Eine Reise, die länger als ein Tag war, Gepäck-Chaos und ein Überraschungsbesuch zum Frühstück: Die Swarco Raiders Coaches sind in Kalifornien gelandet!

Nach einer 29-stündigen Odyssee sind die beiden Eurobowl-Sieger endlich in Oakland, Kalifornien angekommen. Selbst ein verspäteter Flug und vorübergehend verloren gegangene Koffer konnten die gute Laune der beiden Tiroler nicht trüben. Nach einer kurzen Nacht wartete schon beim Frühstück im Oakland Hilton Hotel die erste Überraschung auf die beiden. Swarco Raiders Head Coach Santos Carrillo machte zum Abschluss seines Heimatbesuchs einen Abstecher nach Oakland.

'Ich bin froh, dass ich Markus und Robert noch gesehen habe. So konnte ich ihnen noch einige Tipps mit auf den Weg geben', erklärte Carrillo. 'Die Jungs sind sehr aufgeregt und können den Beginn des Abenteuers kaum noch abwarten.'

Nach dem Kurzbesuch des eigenen Coaches ging's direkt weiter in die Geschäftsstelle der Oakland Raiders. Dort lernten Krause und Balazinec ihre vier Mitstreiter des 'International Guest Coach Program' in der Players Lounge der Oakland Raiders kennen.

Anschließend wurden die Coaches von einer Stretch-Limousine abgeholt und nach Napa Valley zum Trainingscamp der Oakland Raiders gefahren. Dort durften sie sofort an einem Meeting der NFL-Schiedsrichter teilnehmen. Danach erhielten sie eine Tour übers Trainingsgelände, einen Sack voller Oakland Raiders Merchandise und kamen um 16:20 Uhr Ortszeit schließlich in neuen Kleidern zum ersten Training.

Markus Krause: 'Es war ein super aufregender Tag. Es gab so viele Eindrücke zu verarbeiten. Die Fahrt mit der Limousine war Wahnsinn und hier im Camp werden wir rund um die Uhr betreut. Ich bin unheimlich froh, hier sein zu dürfen.'

Robert Balazinec: 'Wir waren heute den ganzen Tag auf den Beinen und der lange Flug steckt uns auch noch in den Knochen. Doch der Tag war so spannend und abwechslungsreich, da blieb kaum Zeit zum Luft holen. Das erste Training war großartig: die Intensität, diese riesigen Brocken auf dem Feld. Einfach toll. Ich freue mich auf die kommenden Tage.'

Gasttrainerprogramm der Raiders
Das sechste 'International Guest Coach Program' findet vom 6.-14. August im Raiders Trainingskomplex in Napa Valley, Kalifornien, statt. Die Gasttrainer werden nicht nur bei allen Übungseinheiten dabei sein, sondern auch beim legendären Fan-Day der Oakland Raiders, der 'Raider Nation Celebration' (Samstag, 8. August), sowie beim ersten Saisonvorbereitungsspiel gegen die Dallas Cowboys am Donnerstag, den 13. August.

ESPN Kicks Off 2009 Fantasy Football Season

Free Fantasy Football Returns Across Multiple Platforms with New and Improved FantasyCast, Free Live Scoring, Mobile Alerts and Management, New Champions Leagues.

SportsCenter Fantasy Draft Special to Air August 20
ESPN kicks off the 2009 Fantasy Football season with the return of free ESPN Fantasy Football presented by GEICO and GMC on ESPN.com. The game will once again feature a broad lineup of free features including live scoring, multiple draft options, mobile alerts and team management, fully customizable rules and scoring, and the broadest collection of expert analysis, news and statistical information available. ESPN Fantasy Football players can begin drafting (and mock-drafting) on ESPN.com now and will be served by integration across ESPN’s many media platforms.

Paying homage to its early beginnings, ESPN will commemorate the 2009 season by going local, organizing 1,000 house parties nationwide during the week of August 24 for the draft. Each will be hosted by either an ESPN.com league manager or ambassador (selected from a pool of nearly 7,000 applicants), at their home, in coordination with ESPN.com and House Party, Inc. Additionally, on August 29, ESPNChicago.com and ESPN Radio 1000 will host 400 players from 40 leagues for a draft event featuring Chicago-specific leagues and prizes. The event will feature a Q&A with ESPN Fantasy Sports guru Matthew Berry and NFL analysts John Clayton and Mike Ditka. Similar draft events will be hosted in Washington D.C. (August 21), Philadelphia (August 22) and New York (August 24, 25 & 31).

“We’re kicking off fantasy football this year by celebrating it the way it began – in people’s homes and social circles,” said Jason Waram, vice president of fantasy games for ESPN. “The strength of this game is rooted in its communities and the sports passions they share, and that is why we’ve seen ESPN Fantasy Football grow nearly exponentially since it began on ESPN.com, including over 33 times the participation since 2005 alone.”

2009 ESPN FANTASY FOOTBALL GUIDE
The fifth-annual stand-alone fantasy football publication from ESPN, is on newsstands now and features Arizona Cardinals’ Larry Fitzgerald. The 144-page guide delivers expert analysis and insider information from ESPN’s fantasy experts, television personalities and writers from ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine. ESPN ANNOUNCES LIVE FOOTBALL PRESENTER AND COMMENTATOR LINE-UP

Rebecca Lowe Joins Ray Stubbs on ESPN’s Presenting TeamMark Chapman, Kelly Cates and Darrell Currie complete the line-upJon Champion and Derek Rae to Lead Live Match Commentary

ESPN today announced its main line-up of broadcasting talent, with the addition of six new hosts and commentators for its live coverage of 46 Barclays Premier League, 30 Clydesdale Bank Premier League matches and other key international football matches.

Rebecca Lowe will be the new co-host of ESPN’s football coverage, joining Ray Stubbs. Mark Chapman, Kelly Cates and Darrell Currie will also join Ray and Rebecca on the presenting team. Jon Champion and Derek Rae will be ESPN’s commentators, with years of top flight match commentary between them. With a combined broadcasting experience spanning BBC television and radio, ITV, Sky, CNN, Channel 5, Setanta and ESPN the new signings will bring football fans an incredible wealth of sporting knowledge as well as energy and enthusiasm

Announcing these new additions to the ESPN presenting team, Jeroen Oerlemans, ESPN’s Vice President, Channels, for Europe, Middle East and Africa said: “We’re extremely happy to bring Rebecca, Mark, Kelly and Darrell on board to the ESPN presenting team for the coming season’s Barclays Premier League and Clydesdale Bank Premier League live football coverage. In Jon Champion and Derek Rae we have two of football’s finest and most distinctive commentators, who will no doubt engage with fans of English and Scottish top flight football alike. Rebecca Lowe’s rise to fame through the BBC’s Talent Search for a football reporter has lead her to work on Final Score, Football Focus and Match of the Day, as well as reporting from the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. Rebecca and Ray will be co-hosts from 15 August, when ESPN airs its first Premier League game.

Heading up ESPN’s Barclays Premier League match commentary as Chief Commentator, Jon Champion brings with him over 20 years of broadcasting experience, from FA Cup and Premier League matches through to cricket, swimming and rugby. His counterpart on Clydesdale Bank Premier League matches, Derek Rae is a former British Sports Broadcaster of the Year, and a hugely popular voice of ESPN, commentating on over 150 football matches a year for ESPN over the last 12 years.

Sports presenter, journalist, BBC 5 Live anchor and Radio 1 DJ, Mark Chapman has recently presented Match of the Day, anchoring the BBCs live coverage of Italy v Northern Ireland. Mark has also hosted Five's live Serie A coverage, Football Italiano, as well as its weekly football show, Football Night.

Having established herself as one of the main faces of Sky Sports News, Kelly Cates (formerly Kelly Dalglish) also went on to cover the World Cup and European Championships. Kelly’s work on television includes coverage of live Premier League and FA Cup matches and, on the radio, Kelly was talkSPORT’s first female host and continues to work regularly on BBC Radio Five Live.

With previous producing, reporting and presenting roles for Radio Clyde, BBC Scotland Television, CNN International Sport and Setanta, Darrell Currie’s experience includes coverage of The Clydesdale Bank Premier League, Barclays Premier League, FA Cup and Magners League Live Rugby.

ESPN secured the rights to 46 Barclays Premier League games for the 2009/10 season. The new ESPN channel begins its top flight football coverage on Saturday 15th August at 5.30 pm with the clash between Everton and Arsenal, last season’s 4th and 5th place finishers, at Goodison Park.

The Scottish Premier League awarded Sky Sports and ESPN the exclusive live rights to Clydesdale Bank Premier League games for the next five seasons. ESPN’s opening live coverage of the season will feature the 7:45pm fixture between Dundee United and Hearts on Saturday 17th August.

ESPN plans to make its new live sports coverage widely available across multiple Pay-TV platforms. As part of this distribution strategy, ESPN has already reached agreements for its coverage to be retailed by Sky and Virgin Media.
