Navy-Notre Dame Football Game Drawing Worldwide Media Attention

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The 2012 Emerald Isle Classic football game between Navy and Notre Dame, which will be played on Saturday, Sept. 1 in Dublin, Ireland at Aviva Stadium is garnering worldwide media exposure.

The game, which is presented by The Gathering Ireland 2013, will be televised live in the United States to 100 percent of the country by CBS at 9:00 AM Eastern (which is 3:00 AM in Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo’s native Hawai’i).  Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson, Tracy Wolfson and David Feherty will be on hand to call all the action.

ESPN America will take the television feed from CBS and air the game in 66 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.  For a list of countries and cable outlets that get ESPN America go to www.espnamerica.com.

American Forces Network will also carry the CBS television feed to 175 countries and U.S. Territories.  The American Forced Network worldwide radio and television broadcast network serves American service men and women, Department of Defense and other U.S. government civilians and their families stationed at bases overseas, as well as U.S. Navy ships at sea.

There have been close to 200 media members credentialed for the game with newspapers from Japan, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Poland and Hungary covering the contest along with numerous media outlets from Ireland, Northern Ireland and the United States.

Monday Night Football: Houston Texans Host Baltimore Ravens

Matt Schaub and the Houston Texans will host Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens in a battle of AFC playoff hopefuls on ESPN’s Monday Night Football on Dec. 13 at 8:30 p.m. ET (2:30 CET) on ESPN, ESPN America and ESPN HD. Mike Tirico and analysts Jon Gruden and Ron Jaworski will call the game, and Michele Tafoya and Suzy Kolber will provide updates on the teams throughout the day.

Monday’s telecast will begin with a Frank Gifford MNF vignette highlighting the New England Patriots at Houston Oilers game from Nov. 10, 1980. Hall of Fame running back Earl Campbell led the Oilers to a 38-34 victory in the Astrodome. That season, Campbell rushed for 1,934 yards, including four 200-yard rushing games, the most in his legendary career.

ESPN’s “game around the game” studio coverage will begin at noon on SportsCenter, followed by NFL Live at 3:30 p.m. and NFL PrimeTime at 4 p.m. The 90-minute Monday Night Countdown show will begin at 7 p.m. with host Chris Berman and analysts Cris Carter, Mike Ditka, Tom Jackson, Keyshawn Johnson, Chris Mortensen, and NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Stuart Scott and analysts Matt Millen and Steve Young will contribute from the stadium.

TV-Game: NEW ENGLAND at ATLANTA

(Thursday, FOX, 8:00 PM ET/ ESPN America 02:00 AM CEST): Two of the game’s elite quarterbacks – New England’s Tom Brady and Atlanta’s Matt Ryan – will square off in the Georgia Dome on Thursday night.

Entering his third season, Ryan has led the Falcons to back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in franchise history. The young quarterback spent the offseason watching film on some of the league’s best at the position, including New England’s Brady.

“I learned several things about the game and about my own game during my film work,” says Ryan, “but I was mostly impressed with the patience under fire exhibited by Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.”
Both teams opened the preseason with victories in Week 1. The Patriots defeated the defending champion New Orleans Saints 27-24 and the Falcons knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs 20-10.

“This is all about establishing an attitude every time we step on the field,” says New England tight end Alge Crumpler. “Regardless of who we are playing or what the circumstances are, if we play together as a team, good things will happen.”
